Southern Boulevard Improvements

Bronx, NY

Southern Boulevard, previously known as Kazimiroff Boulevard, runs along the north and east edge of The New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo from Bronx River Parkway to 180th Street. The street configuration was varied throughout its length; some places with two lanes in each direction, some places narrowed down to one lane. Pedestrian sidewalk was inconsistent and there were several intersections with sub-standard turning radii for vehicles. Our traffic calming measures for a thoroughfare overwhelmed by through traffic were based on changing the character of the street to include landscape medians, additional traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, safe turning radii, and landscape and lighting for a continuous sidewalk.
